Remembering Gary Messing
Gary Messing, region president in 1994 and 1995, passed away recently. Gary and his wife Renee were among the most active members in the region for several years.
They often hosted the annual Turbo Spaghetti or Carrera Chili at their condo in Milwaukee.
They were instrumental in convincing PCA National to allow Milwaukee to host the 2001 Parade. They recruited a group of members to serve in various roles to ensure a successful Parade. None worked harder than the two of them.
When the Milwaukee region was approaching its 50th year, Gary and Renee organized a team to plan a series of events with the theme Everything Porsche that would be held throughout the year to observe the milestone. Events included a kick off at the Harley museum, an autocross, picnic at Road America, concours, driver education and more. The schedule was capped with a black-tie affair at a local country club.
Renee followed Gary as region president, serving in 1996 and 1997. Renee was also the region treasurer for many years.
Always stepping up to help, Gary and Renee were among a handful of region members who took over the Milwaukee Masterpiece, later renaming it the Milwaukee Concours d’Elegance. This event at the lakefront drew historic and vintage cars from across the country.
“Gary left a lasting mark on not only Porsche enthusiasts, but on many people that enjoy motoring and all while helping to contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to some of the most worthy charities in Southeastern Wisconsin,” said Mike O’Krongly, region member.
The region extends its deepest sympathy to Renee.
